Increasing Need For Fighting Tuberculosis Infections

tuberculosis

The augmenting rates of mortality and morbidity due to tuberculosis clearly depicts a poor handling by the global governments. In the recent report of the World Health Organization, an increase in the number of tuberculosis cases between 2013 and 2015 is evidently brought out. Around 10.4 million new cases were detected in the year 2015. Combating tuberculosis has again become a universal problem. Tuberculosis results in high mortality rates when compared to HIV and malaria. It is one among the top ten diseases that results in death across the world. This necessitates a massive effort across boundaries in order to keep this deadly epidemic under control.

Senior medical coordinator, Greg Elder, expresses his shock towards the colossal growth of tuberculosis cases. He also adds that if tuberculosis is not treated at the right time it can become a deadly threat to the entire world. The director general of World Health Organization, Dr. Margaret Chan says that we have to undergo an uphill battle to reduce the incidence of tuberculosis. The director of the World Health Organization Global TB Program, Dr. Mario Raviglione proclaims the need for more money for early screening and treatment of tuberculosis. As per the official reports, underdeveloped countries are in need of more financial help to combat tuberculosis.

The reports from World Health Organization reveals a shocking funding gap towards the low-income countries. If the fund levels are not raised for the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis infections, the morbidity and mortality rates can grow even higher. International donations are the prime contributing factor to the majority of the funds generated for combating tuberculosis. As per the reports of Kaiser Family Foundation, the United States has always been the largest donor to the international funds. The U.S. has also pledged more billions for the next three decades to combat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. With an improvement in funding, the control of this deadly epidemic remains possible.

WHO Urges Nations To Fight Obesity By Imposing Taxes

who

The figures recently presented by the World Health Organization have raised alarms across several sections of society, especially in those of economically forward and prosperous nations. Obesity is now the number one villain in the world, afflicting both young children as well as adults. It’s a cause of concern for many people. Health experts have long cautioned the public as to it being as the prime cause of lifestyle diseases like cardio-vascular ailments, etc. Children as young as 5, are now at an increased risk of developing obesity due to non-genetic reasons. And, many have already started pointing their fingers at the culprits responsible for this life-threatening condition.

Sugar- It is a vital nutrient with the property to increase the energy levels of the consumer. If it is taken in the correct dosage, that is. Today, the world is seeing a dramatic increase in the intake of sugary food like canned fruit juices and carbonated fizzy drinks. These are attractively priced and are always advertised as being the most ‘in’ thing in the world. The result is that such manufacturers are now successfully enticing gullible kids to fall in to its trap!

According to WHO an average person needs sugars to form only ten per cent of the total calories that have to be taken in a day. But, soda-making companies have caused people to far exceed this limit. Thus, it has been recommended by the global health institution to impose a substantial level of taxes on such erring companies. This will cause the prices of these products to increase. The WHO believes that the resulting situation will lead to many people rethinking their preference for such junk-food.

This news has not been viewed by the Cola industry. The International Council of Beverages Associations, which is the global spokesperson for the beverages industry has expressed its dismay at WHO’s figures as well as the subsequent recommendations.

But the results of this recent poll had something else in the store. To the dismay, negative preferences were obtained for both Trump and Clinton. Amongst 10 voters, 6 disliked Clinton and 4 liked her. For Trump, the results were just the opposite. On analyzing the demographic profile of the voters, Harry Clinton gathered more support among the womenfolk. She managed to gather victory with a margin of 15 points. On the other hand, Trump fared well among the men with a 10 points margin. Black voters who prefer democratic front, support Hillary Clinton at a larger level. Hispanics also prefer Clinton over Trump.

However, the white voters prefer Trump over 14 points margin. Amidst their party supporters, both Clinton and Trump received a margin of 3 points. Amidst constant criticism by the media and politicians against Trump for his inadequacy in handling specific policy issues, his party supporters validate his choices and prefer him over Clinton. Trump’s choices have been propelling many of his supporters for casting their votes. More than a quarter of supporters praise the leadership abilities of Trump. A small group values him for his experience. Therefore, the results are indicative only of the current situation. Both candidates have to work even harder to win the hearts of the people.
